Catching Up

I know it has been a very long time since I have updated my blog.  We have been very busy over the last two months.  So, here is a little of what we've been doing!

Over Thanksgiving break we went to St. Augustine with my grandparents and my dad's aunt.  We had a lot of fun.  One fun thing we did was we went to the old Spanish fort.  Below is a picture of the inside of it.

I've also been busy with my crocheting.  I made owl hats...one is pictured below.

Then we had a baby shower at our church for a lady who is expecting.  I made her a basket of balls.  2 of every color so that the baby can sort them by colors and he/she can also use them to count.  Below is a picture of them ( definitely not the best picture ever, but I guess it will do!)

Then my grandma had a baby shower at her church, so I made her a little bonnet.  I absolutely LOVED making this bonnet and will most definitely be making it again.  I got the pattern here.  I added the scalloped edge to make it a little more frilly. 

I really like the back of it.  I think it is very sweet as is the whole bonnet!  :)

Another thing we did was we went to South Caroline for 8 days.  It was great to see all the family.  My grandparent live there and also my uncle, aunt, and 5 cousins!  Here is a picture of half of the group!  We went to Don Pablo's one night for dinner when the older boys, my dad, and my grandpa went to a hockey game!

I've also made some flower hair clips.  They are so cute and easy to make.

A really great friend of ours had a birthday in December.  So, my Mom and I made her a cross stitched wall hanging with the name of her Etsy shop embroidered on it.  I made a little owl to hang from the bottom of it.  This lady loves owls!

I have also been reading my Bible every day.  The Bible truly is the best book you can ever read.  I am reading my Bible this year with a schedule. 

I have also been learning verses on the catgory of "All Have Sinned".  Such great verses! 

Well, there is a little catch up for you all!  I will definitely be posting more often now! 

"Give Thanks"

This is my latest cross stitch pattern!  I absolutely love this one. 

I gave it to my Mom's cousin.  She lives in Kansas, but her family and her parents were down here recently, and we got to see them!  Here is a picture of her and me.

We had the best time ever.  Here is a picture of all of us.  It was so nice to be able to see everyone again!

We had dinner with them and then went to their hotel.  Here is a picture of my Mom, her cousin, and her aunt. 

It was so good to see everyone again, and we hope to be able to do it again in the near future.

We are going out of town for Thanksgiving, so I will not be posting for a while.

Fun Friday

One of the down sides of cross stitch, crochet, or sewing are those little bits of thread and yarn you snip off.  They can be a real mess of piles here and there.  Here is a pretty little answer to this problem.  

I got this little vase at Michael's craft store for $.99.  Instead of having your piles of snipped off thread or yarn scraps lying on the table, couch, or nightstand, just put them in this little vase.

Here is another picture just to give you a idea of the size of it.

It is small and very nice to have!

You can also spice it up with a little ribbon, or here in this picture I have just simply crocheted a little chain in my favorite color yarn!

So, this little vase is a pretty solution to messy piles of your scrap yarn or threads... and for only $.99.  Can't beat that!

Owl Hats

These are the owl hats I said I was going to be posting about.  They are so adorable.  I got this pattern from Daisy Cottage Designs.  This pattern is well written and very easy to understand.  It is also easy to make! 

Here is the first one I ever made just for practice.  I think it turned out great! 

This is the second one I made.  This one is for my Dad's cousin who is having a little baby boy.  My Mom also made her a little blanket for the baby to be able to take along in the stroller and carseat.  Here is the hat I made for her.

Then I made this third one for a friend of ours who is having a baby girl.  My Mom is making her a blanket also.  I will post a picture of her blanket when she finishes it!

Here is a picture of all 3 of the hats.  They are all so cute!

This is the latest one I'v made.  My Grandma has a baby shower coming up so I made her an owl hat and my Mom made her a blanket. This baby is a boy so we did navy blue and green.  These pictures are of the blanket my Mom made for her.

Lastly here is a picture of the blanket and owl hat together.  They match perfectly.  They are both so cute.

 

 

I am making 8 more owl hats and probably more.  So, more posts to come on these adorable hats and the blanket too!  :)





Pretty Pink Projects

Lately I've been working on PINK things!  First was this piano for a friend of mine who loves playing the piano.  Her room is pink and green.

This is a picture of her and me.

Not the best picture, but it will do!  :)

Then this cupcake was for a little girl at our church who turned one this month.  Her nursery theme is "pink cupcakes".

Here she is.  Isn't she ADORABLE?  I love her.  She is so sweet and always smiley.

Fun Friday

For those of you who enjoy cross stitch, here is a fun idea that has helped me a lot... a cross stitch notebook.

 

In a minute I'll show you why it is so fun, but first, here is what you will need:

A 3 ring binder
Sheet protectors ( I use non glare super heavy weight ones)
Fine tip dry erase markers
Your favorite cross stitch patterns and instructions!



Having your patterns in the sheet protectors will keep them nice and from getting all bent up.  And if they are all in one notebook, you won't lose them.
The best part about the sheet protectors is that you can write on them with your dry erase markers and then erase your marks later.  So when you are counting and need to remember numbers, just jot them down on your sheet protector.  You can also cross off rows as you finish them.  This is especially helpful for beginners.

You can make a notebook like this for crochet, knitting, or any crafts you work on.  In fact, I got the idea from my Auntie Stephie who made me one for my crochet and kntting patterns!  This has been really helpful for me, and I hope it will be for you also! 

 

Latest Sewingseed Project

 

 

This adorable dragonfly was my project for Sewingseed's September post. 

 

I usually give away the things I make as gifts.  This dragonfly I decided to keep for myself because it goes perfectly with the colors of my room.  I have it hanging in my room right next to my door.  It looks great!  I decided to not wrap this hoop with fabric because the wooden hoop is more like a dragonfly's natural surroundings. 

 

Here it is hanging in my room.  Doesn't it go great with the color of my walls?!  I love being able to sit on my bed and look at it every day!

 

 

Sewingseed has the cutest cross stitch patterns.  They are all small and easy projects, and the creatures of nature are so sweet looking.  I've done several of her patterns and have enjoyed doing every one of them. This dragonfly was no exception.
